I18N-ISSUE-370: IANA Character Sets registry http://www.w3.org/International/track/issues/370 Raised by: Addison Phillips On product: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-international/2014JulSep/0025.html Comment from Martin Duerst: This is a Last Call comment on http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/WD-encoding-20140603/. The statement "Historically encodings and their specifications (if any) were kept track of by the IANA Character Sets registry. This specification renders that registry obsolete." and potentially other sweeping statements in this spec have to be conditioned carefully so that they do not look like they affect other protocols such as electronic mail, where e.g. the distinction between true 7-bit US-ASCII and other encodings is crucial.
