r12a has just created a new issue for https://github.com/w3c/alreq: == Vertical text in spines, etc. == _This issue is applicable to most languages._ Vertical text may occur for special effects (the spine of a book, table column headings, etc). Typographically, it is simply horizontal text that is rotated. The CSS feature defined in [Writing Modes Level 4](https://www.w3.org/TR/css-writing-modes-4/), which is in CR, offers a solution using `sideways-lr|sideways-rl` values of the `writing-mode` property. The feature isn't supported yet by Chrome or Safari. Firefox does support it. Test: [sideways-rl/lr is supported in browsers](https://w3c.github.io/i18n-tests/results/int-vertical-text#nl_sideways) Browser bugs raised: [Chromium](https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=680331), [WebKit](https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=166941) Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/alreq/issues/242 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
