I don't really care who said what, I just felt that there was a
general tendency in the group (in the discussions I've read) toward
dismissing "minor details" like syntax and serialization and wanted to
find out whether my impression was correct or not.

Yea, thanks for that clarification. I think the perspective is much
clearer to me now. :-)
