Matt is correct in his assessment that the change Ian made to the draft does not address one of the problems … actually it was the main problem found in the proposal. [1] Matt’s proposal [2] was to strike the offending sentence entirely. But a compromised was near. I know that it is well within the editor’s power to make changes to the spec on things that do not have official working group decisions. But it might have been not only helpful but also collegial if the editor would have listened the HTML WG discussion on the issue [3] and then proposed an edit to the author of the Change Proposal and this the HTML WG instead of solely relying on WHATWG IRC discussion [4] and deciding his course of action.
