Ah, therein lies the misunderstanding. I didn't claim common codecs aren't 
required for interop (or at least, I didn't intend to make that claim). 
What I was referring to when I said that something wasn't required for 
interop was a section describing the status quo of common formats and 
specifications supported by Web browsers. It was unrelated (except in the 
most tangential way) to the <video> issue. My apologies for any confusion.
