HTML Media Extensions Working Group Charter Extended; Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) update

All,

The HTML Media Extensions Working Group charter [1] has been extended
until 30 April 2018.

The Working Group completed the Media Source Extensions specification on
17 November 2016 [2] and the specification is accumulating issues since
then [3]. Following a recent W3C discussion on the maintenance of W3C
Recommendations, for now, the best approach is to do maintenance in the
Working Group, and extending the Working Group to allow that.
As such, the Working Group is only allowed to make corrections that do
not add new features [4] to its Recommendation(s) under this charter
extension.

Additionally, noting that the Call for Review for the Encrypted Media
Extensions (EME) specification ended [5], the Director is still
evaluating the feedback received. He has been evaluating the objections
and discussing approaches to address the issues with the team, the TAG,
the Working Group, supporters, objectors, and civil society.

Finally, the Director is continuing to assess feedback in improving
protections for security and privacy researchers by establishing best
practices for responsible vulnerability disclosure.

More information about the HTML Media Extensions Working Group can be
found on its home page [6].
