https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=23558 Bug ID: 23558 Summary: Requirement to ignore additional top-level boxes in ISO BMFF limits forward compatibility. Product: HTML WG Version: unspecified Hardware: PC OS: All Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: Media Source Extensions Assignee: adrianba@microsoft.com Reporter: watsonm@netflix.com QA Contact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org CC: mike@w3.org, public-html-media@w3.org Section 12.2.2 states "Valid top-level boxes defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 other than moov, moof, and mdat are allowed to appear between the end of an initialization segment or media segment and before the beginning of a new media segment. These boxes must be accepted and ignored by the user agent and are not considered part of the media segment in this specification." This requires such additional boxes to be ignored, wheras it would be better if it was simply allowed to ignore them. Replace: "These boxes must be accepted and ignored by the user agent and are not considered part of the media segment in this specification." With: "These boxes must be accepted and may be ignored by the user agent and are not considered part of the media segment in this specification." -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
