I just got done reading several hundred pages of rfcs, specifications, recommendations, best practices guides, and other forms of documentation. But something still remains unclear to me. Are the Encrypted Media Extensions supposed to be like HDCP for HTML5? HDCP was an excellent success, wasn't it? I hear the master key was not only cracked, but leaked globally. I also hear that most of the key revocation servers run by the DCP LLC authority have already been cracked and are currently controlled by hacktivists. I hear that the crack goes all of the way down to the firmware level of the underlying servers beneath the virtual private servers those key revocation servers run within. Are the EMEs supposed to be more like the Broadcast flag system? So are the Encrypted Media Extensions going to be like that? Who is going to regulate the EMEs? How is this going to encourage a free and open web? How does this further the mission of the W3C?
