Mike’s points starts with a untrue premise: «There's currently a bug in the W3C HTML5 spec which causes it to give the impression to Web authors that the table border attribute is valid when in fact it's not.» It is the opposite that is the case: HTML5 evidently gave Mike the impression that border is unvalid, when it is in fact is valid.
