I'm including a link to another discussion on this issue that actually happened
in the Web-Apps working group email list.

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-webapps/2011JulSep/1402.html

I'm adding this link so that members of the HTML WG and others interested in
this topic can be aware that the discussion related to the Editing API is still
happening, but elsewhere.

It would make more sense to use the HTML WG email list for this effort because
a) the Editing API actually originated in the HTML5 document and is still part
of the HTML5 LC document, and b) the HTML WG is actually chartered to provide
an Editing API specification.

I discovered this email via an email at the WHATWG email list that references
it.

http://lists.whatwg.org/htdig.cgi/whatwg-whatwg.org/2011-September/033235.html

It's unfortunate that discussion related to the Editing API has become so
fragmented. Such fragmentation does not aid in the development of a solid
specification.
