Indeed, I think the important distinction between whitespace and a single dash
or the string "no answer provided" is that whitespace is invisible to the user.
It's very easy to start inputting something and then remove everything but a
single whitespace. Hence it seems like a common erroneous value to leave which
wouldn't be caught until a roundtrip to the server was made.
