Some data:

The term "space characters" is referenced 40+ times in various non-impl parts
of the spec; e.g.:

http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec-author-view/spec.html#concept-id
http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec-author-view/spec.html#text-content

The term "White_space" is referenced two times in non-impl parts of the spec,
both in the "Vaguer moments in time" section:

http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec-author-view/spec.html#valid-date-or-time-string-in-content
http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec-author-view/spec.html#valid-date-string-in-content-with-optional-time

The term "alphanumeric ASCII characters" is actually not referenced anywhere at
all in any non-impl parts of the spec.
