I think a better example for use of alternative text for the poster would be if
the poster is an image that isn't contained in the video at all.  For instance,
if it's a title card for a video series.

In such a case the title of the video might be: "Law of Gravitation"

The poster image for such a video may contain actual textual information that
is displayed before the video is played, especially helpful if the video is to
be embedded on a remote site where the surrounding content is not enough
context to describe the video further.

In this case, the alternative text attribute for the poster would be essential
and may contain such text as: "Feynman Lecture Series - Cornell University
(1964)"  This is valuable information which, if only visible on the title-card,
would be unavailable to visually impaired users.
