Gecko does have code to support this; I'm not sure what this mysterious "simple
testcase" is that isn't linked to from this bug, so I can't tell you why you
see the behavior you see.

That said, I'd be _very_ happy to remove this code from Gecko.  I've never seen
this code exercised in practice.
