Uhm… I have one issue: > Sentence beginning with “Individuals with …” a. It is not just that “…information that is presented as text embedded in a video should also be available as audio descriptions …”. Text anywhere, such as in web pages, should be available aurally. [1] b. Suggestion: Change to “… information presented as text should be available aurally, including audio descriptions embedded in videos …”. [2] [1] While I appreciate the sentiment, and where it is coming from, we need to be very careful here that we do not imply or suggest that all text should have aural equivalents - that is/should be as much a responsibility of the end user as it is the content creator. Pages that host HTML5 video may have other text associated to it, and the statement as suggested *might* be implied that the entire page needs an aural equiv., which at that point we MUST hand off to a TTS engine. [2] Today we have the ability to provide either audio descriptions (actual audio files), or text-based 'descriptions' that could be handed off to a TTS engine (we've seen PoC's from IBM Japan & WGBH/NCAM). So we acknowledge that the descriptions today can be either audio or text-based. (http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/media-a11y-reqs/#text-video-description) As well, the audio description (presuming it is an MP3 or similar audio file) can be provided out-of-band by using the <track> element and @kind (="descriptions") (ref: http://www.w3.org/TR/html-markup/track.html#track.attrs.kind) - so suggesting that it MUST be 'embedded" in videos is incorrect - that is but one way of doing it. Happy to take the feedback, and prepared to take another look at the text here, but NO to carte-blanche change for this bullet. Cognitive disabilities are neurological disabilities. · Suggestion: Change “Cognitive and neurological disabilities …” to “Cognitive disabilities …”. b. All of the references are to cause/disability disorders except for “memory impairments”. · Suggestion: Remove “memory impairments” from the list. It is common to all of the disorders listed anyway. 2) Sentence beginning with “Individuals with …” a. It is not just that “…information that is presented as text embedded in a video should also be available as audio descriptions …”. Text anywhere, such as in web pages, should be available aurally. b. Suggestion: Change to “… information presented as text should be available aurally, including audio descriptions embedded in videos …”. 3) Sentence beginning with “Some conditions …” a. The reference to “…multi-system effects …” is confusing to me. I don’t know what that means. · Suggestion: Reword/clarify. b. This is a run-on sentence. · Suggestion: Divide into two sentences, i.e. “Some conditions, such as autism-spectrum disorders, may have multi-system effects. Individuals may need a combination of different accommodation.” c. I believe the reference to “accommodation” should be plural. · Suggestion: Change to “accommodations”.
