I've been looking into the correct name to use for the 'elevation angle' used to describe the angle between the horizontal plane and the velocity vector. See http://www.w3.org/2008/geolocation/track/actions/52 I haven't found a generally accepted term for this angle when applied to a velocity. The closest I've found is for a trajectory, where 'elevation' is the correct term. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elevation_(ballistics). This matches Angel's graphic. Also, 'elevation angle' is used to describe the position of a celestial body. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude_(astronomy)#Altitude The NMEA sentences used to encode GPS data only report the speed in the horizontal plane. They also report the altitude, which is typically used to calculate the ascent rate, rather than the 'elevation angle' of the velocity. See http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/nmea.htm So I suggest we stick with 'elevationAngle'.
