Thanks @mstange. I think I understand what you're going for on the opacity comment - basically, you're saying that "filtering everything" will require special rules for what to do in the myriad nesting cases for opacity (and also filters). Unless the spec is basically "just put something on the screen there, I don't care what it is", it'll be tough to spec, I suspect.
