RE: Normative SKOS Vocabs

Dear Renato, Simon,

little addendum to Simon’s link. That one is the OWL ontology, as the intention (I worked with the UN on developing it at the time) was to model specific relations of the SDGs and put all of them under skos:broader so to have the typical browsing of the SDG tree at the same time.

After a (very quick) search, I didn’t find the SKOS thesaurus (guess with some browsing on the menu buttons on top…), but I still have the link to the github project where everything has been developed:

https://github.com/UNStats/LOD4Stats/tree/master/sdg-data

It’s a nice example of how to interweave OWL and SKOS when you need more precise semantic references but still want to exploit the SKOS standard for driving browsing tools,

You can read more about it in this ESWC paper published in 2021: https://openreview.net/pdf?id=6Y_I9qc6JBD

Cheers,

Armando

P.S. and to cross our paths twice, we have been also working with FAO hosting Caliper before it was finally moved to cloud last month (and I’m leading the development of ShowVoc <https://showvoc.uniroma2.it/> , the browsing/dissemination platform adopted in Caliper :-) )

My contact in UN Stats offers the following:

UNSD developed an SDG ontology in skos, which is published by the UN Dag Hammarskjöld library:

We are also starting a project to publish international statistical classifications in XKOS using FAO's Caliper:

Hi all,

Are there any repos of common SKOS vocabularies (that are well maintained) based on formal standards?

For example, SKOS vocabs of:

- Countries (ISO3166)

- Currencies (ISO4217)

- Languages (ISO639)

etc..

Cheers
