Re: Terminology Service Project

Hi Marcin

We are involved in a European project called ASPECT. This includes provision
of a Vocabulary Bank for Education that contains a range of controlled
vocabularies for use across various systems in the project, including
metadata validation services.

Many of the vocabularies are multilingual, others are being translated.
Polish is one of the languages. The system allows browsing according to your
browser language preference as long as there is a translation in that
language.

At this stage the interface has not been translated, though it has been
translated into Dutch for the EduStandaard service.

The project uses our Lexaurus Editor and Bank software. The architecture and
model is not based on a particular exchange format but support is provide to
import and export SKOS, Zthes (various profiles), Vdex and others, plus
there are some xslts available for converting other formats. Though it needs
be be recognised that somel formats may not carry the same information.

The schema is very easily customisable and can be adapted to user
requirements, including providing alternative concept (or term) property
names.

The Bank provides standards-based machine to machine interfaces and is
accessible via a REST API that allows the format to be specified in a call
to return "zthes", "zthes_1_1", "zthes_1_2", "vdex", "skos", "nested",
"json" or (for non-vocab calls) "xthes".

If you have any queries please contact me directly.

Hello

My organization has plans for setting up a polish terminology service on
library metadata and cataloging formats and standards (term + definition +
source of definition + context + additional information). The project is on
initial stage. We are considering the choice of appriopiate format. We are
aware of existing glossaries in SKOS, but we have not used any tools,
software which could help us.
Please feel free and share your experiences.
This should be quite simple and easy to manage.

Best wishes
Marcin
