Re: [SKOS] mixing OWL and SKOS (beginner)

Dear all,
I am new to this SKOS and this list, so please, excuse my possibly naive
questions.

We are exploring means to build a system supporting identification of
instances across multiple knowledge bases, as well as text-based retrieval.

So, we need support for thesaurus functionality (preferred label,
alternative label, broader, related) as well as support for
subsumption (is_a relationships), support for instances of a class etc.
I have so far not found any example of how to create instances for
concepts (John, Mary, Peter instances of concept Person, alternatively
human), which is typical for ontologies. It would be also good if it
would be possible to support altLabels for Instances (University of
California LA or UCLA or UC Los Angeles...). Any hints?

My question therefore is:
Is it possible to merge the properties of OWL and SKOS? Any examples? I
have only found this so far:
http://isegserv.itd.rl.ac.uk/public/skos/2007/10/f2f/skos-owl-patterns.html

The resulting structure should be simple, maybe just OWL Lite.

Thanks a lot in advance
Martin
