Hi Ivan and Erialdo,

As a Portuguese speaker I couldn’t help but notice this thread cross my inbox this morning, but I will reply in English (both for the list and because it’s been 17 years since I last wrote Portuguese natively…).

Erialdo, first I also recommend that you join the Brazilian Publishing Community Group. They would be best equipped to help with questions like these in the future.

To answer your immediate question and need for examples of epub:type usage, the only updated resource I know of is the DAISY knowledge base: http://kb.daisy.org/publishing/docs/html/epub-type.html

The documentation only includes examples for notes, which is the only broadly adopted implementation of epub:type in popular ebook reader applications. The epub:type attribute is not recommended for future use because it has no mapping to assistive technologies and does not provide accessibility benefits. ARIA roles are better suited to the semantics envisioned by epub:type, and are the recommended solution to add structural semantics to ebooks: http://kb.daisy.org/publishing/docs/html/roles.html

Best,
Mateus

EXTERNAL EMAIL
Erialdo,

I would expect that most of the EPUB 3 Community Group mailing list subscribers do not understand Portuguese (I believe that is the language you use; forgive me if that is not the case). The working language for most of the W3C Mailing lists is English, which is the case of this mailing list, too.

There exist a Brazilian Publishing Community Group:

https://www.w3.org/community/brazilpub/participants<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2Fcommunity%2Fbrazilpub%2Fparticipants&data=04%7C01%7C%7C62d474365aa943c841c808d8b177c583%7C2916ea148f244be68a2d3afc0c7a4892%7C0%7C0%7C637454475272744517%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=Pqo7dukMniaMPiAe9lh0HNiXXBRB0YYyfg3q6%2FNa7l8%3D&reserved=0>

although I do not know whether it is really active. (I cc this mail to the chair of that CG, Reinaldo Ferraz.) I think you would have more feedback if you joined that community.

Of course, you are more than welcome using the current mailing list if you have questions but you would have to use English I am afraid…

Sincerely

Ivan Herman
