Hi all I have gone through the above resource and made some notes of what I think needs work. I have done an initial re-write of the Overview page, trying to simplify it. Please keep in mind, these are just my thoughts on what would work. Overall, if the resource is going to be kept, and I see no reason why not, it needs updating. Specifically, there have been quite a few things added or amended since this resource was last worked on – videos, tutorials, Easy Checks, BAD etc. Also, we need to think about how WCAG 2.1 and Silver, WCAG-EM and the reporting tool would work into the resource. These are critical resources that I think need to be included. The look/feel of the resource needs to be updated, but I think that will probably be addressed when it is brought into the new website. All the links need to be checked and updated. This will be a bit tricky, as some of the resources referenced in this section may not be kept for the new website or may be changed so significantly they no longer fit in the present sections here. I’m starting to think that this resource will need significant refinement after other resources are completed, so that we are using the latest iterations of those, and not referencing things that are being deleted or significantly amended. I have looked through all 4 pages of the resource, and made suggestions in the enclosed document. I felt it was easier to take a Snagit image of each and make comments below. As stated above, I have done a suggested re-write of the Overview page. If anyone thinks I need to address something before tonight’s meeting, please email me asap and I’ll try to get that done. At least I’ve made a start? I know you both are very busy and it is with heartfelt thanks that I am encouraged to see this progress. I think the items in the plan are sound. I know that you will be giving it all you got. Based on Vivienne's comment I am hopping that the initial review of the resource (which doesn't have to be in great scrutiny), as well as the planned revisions (for planning team) could take place faster. Other editor teams are typically looking through the resource together by phone and making the planned revision list (simple bullet points of what you want to do) together in a meeting and then sending it in to planning email. I think the time it takes to do that could be greatly shortened as it won't take as long as you think. Then when we give you some feedback you could be off and editing sooner. This may help meet the timeline goal of end October. Again, I say all of this with 100% respect to the work and priorities you have in your own jobs, and understand if the timeline is the best case scenario as is. Thank you for pulling all of this together Denis. It is very helpful to see how it is coming along and if there are things I can do to help. Brent Brent A. If you guys can get some of the work (and review) done at TPAC, then great. I, for one, will not be there, as I had already maxed out all my travel for anything not related to client work by mid 2017. But I agre that if we could get most of this done before TPAC, that would probably help get the resource on the new site faster. My EO work will be focused on this resource for the next couple of weeks. I'm setting 2 hours aside each week for this, as of this week. Let's keep a line of communication open, discuss an issues we find with the document, page by page, and start logging any issues we think we need to bring the the review team. /Denis -- Denis Boudreau, Principal accessibility consultant & trainer Deque Systems, Inc. Keeping it as bullet points, for brevity: 1. Our current work only involves this 4-page document: https://www.w3.org/WAI/training/ 2. Our very first task is coming up with a timeline for our chairs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nJb1_PNbT6bMEz0AuWA1HRj-w2LeujXMatvmajYS4is/edit 3. Once we've determined what that timeline might look like, we need to get busy with reviewing the resource. I suggest we go one page at a time (maybe one per week), over the next 4 weeks or so? 4. In order not to flood Github with our comments and questions, we have agreed only to use it when we're ready to have a discussion with the larger group. We will log our issues here (things we want to discuss with the larger EO group): https://github.com/w3c/wai-develop-training/issues 5. Before we get to Github - and I should be able to help you with that, Vivienne - we've agreed to keep discussing through drect emails for now between the two (three) of us. Andrew, if you want us to keep you in the loop about what we discuss, let us know. Otherwise, we'll keep those discussions between Vivienne and myself. 6. Github is only where we organize the issues we want to discuss about the resource. Github is not the official place to track and archive important aspects of our discussion. We'll use EO discussion lists for that. 7. For any topic we want to formally share with our chairs and our review team, we will move from informal email discussions to discussing theses things on the EO discussion list Shawn created for us. That way it will be archived for everyone to see. This is the email address we'll use: public-eo-develop-training@w3.org <mailto:public-eo-develop-training@w3.org> . I suggest we call out to the review team once we've created Github issues, so they always have something to weigh in on. 8. For any situation where we need to formally inform our chairs about something that we're either struggling with, or any situation involving communication with the chairs and Shawn, we'll use this one instead (think of it as Batman's batphone): public-eo-plan@w3.org <mailto:public-eo-plan@w3.org> . To me, in a nutshell, that is our plan. Does that sound accurate? Did I miss anything? Do you all agree? Tentatively trying to set some dates, so we can define that timeline. I realize it sets us later than we'd like, but realistically, I think this is what we have to consider: * Initial Review by Editors: 17/09/04 - 17/09/29 * Summary of planned revisions sent to EO-Plan: 17/09/30 * Draft ready for Review Team: 17/10/06 * Review Team/Editor Iterations: 17/10/07 - 17/10/20 * Final Draft ready for EOWG Thorough Review: 17/10/21 * EOWG Thorough Review (nice to be over two weekends): 17/10/22 - 17/10/31 * Revisions complete after EOWG Review: 17/11/10 * Final EOWG Approval: 17/11/17 Any thoughts? Does that seem like something you can commit to, Vivienne? Andrew maybe, even? Looking forward to hear from you. /Denis -- Denis Boudreau, Principal accessibility consultant & trainer Deque Systems, Inc. What are the gaps that haven’t been addressed? Make suggestions for new resources to be developed over time? Following my previous email, I’ve been looking at the resources on the page and see that there are 3 separate areas: Accessibility Topics, Presentation Outlines, and Workshop Outline. * Accessibility Topics There are 18 topics here, and some of them are quite out-dates such as Introducing WCAG 2.0 – needs to include references to up-coming resources such as 2.1 and Silver, and can probably drop some such as Migrating to WCAG 2.0 (might make that 2.1) The work here is quite huge as each of these sections will need to be evaluated and might be more than the 3 of us can handle #18 – conformance evaluation should refer to WCAG-EM and the reporting outline resources #16 – that is another resource that is on the list for re-evaluation #10 – should refer to the tutorial and other resources #12&13&14 – can we refer to this from to the work I’m doing with Shadi about with combined expertise? Are we duplicating work found elsewhere in the resources list? Or is this to be the repository for presentations for all of WAI? * Then when you go to the next section, Presentation Outlines, that seems to duplicate information found on the previous topics. * Finally, when you look at the workshop outline, I need convincing that this needs to be there. I’m open to your suggestions, but it sounds a bit prescriptive to me. I’m sure that we all have similar resources we’ve developed. For example, at Web Key IT, we have developed a 5-day certificate program – and I’m positive we’re not alone. Perhaps if we come to some consensus of what needs to be provided, we can divide the work up between the three of us. Unless I’m mistaken about our task, I don’t think the idea is that we develop the replacement presentations, but decide which presentations are still appropriate and then after the new website is developed, new presentations can be added to this resource, if it is kept. My other question is whether the WAI EOWG Tutorials would replace some of this material, or perhaps replace the need for this material completely? I’m not saying I think we should scrap this, but the question needs to be asked before we go to the work of reorganising it. Your thoughts and input would be very much appreciated.
