Re: Selecting Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools

Hi Laura,

Looking good!

It seems we are mixing the more administrative planning (schedule etc.)
with content planning (needed edits etc.).

For example, I think we should describe the purpose of this document
rather than the purpose of revising it. You can see an example of such
purpose definition in the "requirements analysis" of the perspectives
videos (linked below in an earlier email to you). This can be as brief
as one sentence, to define the objective for the document.

The audience seems quite comprehensive -- do all these audiences have
equal priority in relation to the purpose of the document? Will they
look for different types of information? Here the previous requirements
analysis for this document (also linked below) could help.

We should also have a "Recommended Approach" for this document rather
than for the revision. For example, is it supposed to be more factual
versus descriptive? Does it generally encourage, discourage, or remain
neutral to the use of tools? How does it caution common pitfalls? And
how does it address the different audiences described previously?

I think this will help you refine the list of changes, for example to
describe the changes (if any) to the remaining sections -- right now it
only talks about the changes to one of the sections.

Hope this helps!

Best,
   Shadi

We added preliminary/flexible dates to the EWOG Resource management spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nJb1_PNbT6bMEz0AuWA1HRj-w2LeujXMatvmajYS4is/edit#gid=1858500852. I've attached a planning document and a list of proposed changes for your review and feedback. Feel free to edit or comment.

A tricky issues is that it is supposed to address people who are completely new to web accessibility and expect a magical tool that will immediately solve every problem in the universe, and more advanced readers who want to understand the different types of tools and how they could use them.

Shawn mentioned that it would be nice to have but that you had other higher priority updates to work on. Shawn mentioned that this resource should be straightforward, to be updated so it lines up with the categories on the tools list https://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tools/ . I'm not exactly sure what she had in mind but I'd be happy to try to start the editing process if you think I should. Is this something that we can have a phone conversation about so you can point me in the right direction?
