Introduction

Dear all,

Some people have already introduced (thanks!) themselves on the list so I think it is my turn.

My background is in semantic technologies, with a special focus on modeling temporal and especially spatiotemporal information. Currently I am a postdoc at the Aalto University and for the period 2010-2012 I was at the Institute for Geoinformatics at the University of Muenster in Germany.

I am also leading activities at LinkedScience.org for opening up scientific contents. One case there is to link and open data about the Haiti Earthquake [1]. I am also actively organizing tutorials for visualizing and analyzing such contents (for example at ESWC2013 [2].

I have a strong interest in making research and also useful applications for disaster managements. From the research point of view I think there are many interesting questions arising, e.g. how to categorize and link different things (people, events, buildings, ..) together. One result so far is the Management of a Crisis vocabulary which was made by my student Minu Limbu [3]. Earlier we have done also a demonstration of filtering the Linked Haiti data [4].

Thus my expectation and hope from the working group is to start and deepen collaboration for together making and publishing relevant vocabularies, datasets, and methods for analysis and visualization for disaster management. Ideally we would organize the work to funded projects, either to existing or emerging ones among the working group participants.

Best,
Tomi, from SMERST2013 [5]
