Hello everyone,

 my name is Oscar Azanon and I'll be joinig the telco later on ..

 if this may help - I just installed a firefox plugin (chatzilla) that integrates in the browser and seems to be working fine behind a firewall with minimun configuration on my laptop (https://addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/16).

Also note that there are IRC proxies, such as dircproxy [1], that some system 
administrators may find easier to live with as it gives them a central point 
of control. I personally think that blocking IRC gives no tangible security 
benefit, but I'm living with this solution myself.
