RE: DXWG Plenary Meeting - February 14th

Annette

I also joined late (20 minutes late) so I do not have a complete script but I will paste below whatever I have:

[06:20] == nobu_ogura [~nobu_ogura@a11e3e9c.public.cloak] has joined #DXWG

[06:20] <annette_g> Caroline_: Is the document open for anyone who would like to read it?

[06:20] <nobu_ogura> present+

[06:21] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: It's a work in progress. It's a document in Excel. It will ultimately be published in github as HTML. So it's a working document.

[06:21] <annette_g> ... I don't think we will have many people interested in editing the Excel.

[06:22] <annette_g> Caroline_: I was just wondering as a viewer, not an editor.

[06:22] <annette_g> ... If the idea is to spread the word that we need implementations, we could have more implementations in the wild.

[06:22] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: In the W3C process, the call for implementations comes after candidate rec.

[06:23] <annette_g> ... We want to avoid the issue in the second stage and see if we can already get the minimum number and stay on the safe side.

[06:24] <annette_g> ... It can also function to get people who are implementors to reach out to us.

[06:25] <annette_g> Caroline_: Anyone else have any comments?

[06:25] <annette_g> crickets

[06:25] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: Do we want to register the fact that we want to have a DCAT sub-call in the next month?

[06:25] <annette_g> ... I can email the regulars.

[06:26] <annette_g> Caroline_: I'll discuss with Peter, but my feeling is that we should also wait a month because on the plenary.

[06:27] <annette_g> ...s/because on the plenary/on the plenary as well/

[06:27] <annette_g> ...Next would be February 28, but since we're waiting for the working draft and implementation reports, my suggestion would be to wait. What would the subgroup want to do?

[06:28] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: If we wait, it would be until March 21. We could have a plenary on the 14th to see if there are any important matters to address.

[06:28] <annette_g> ...The current plan is to deliver the final version of DCAT3 on March 28.

[06:29] <annette_g> ...I think we should consider having a plenary in mid March to see what has happened on the reviews and if editors are available again.

[06:29] <annette_g> Caroline_: my suggestion is to cancel DCAT subgroup Feb25 and March 7.

[06:30] <annette_g> ...Then we have a plenary on February 28, but it would only be worth it if we are talking about conneg or something other than DCAT.

[06:31] <annette_g> Caroline_: I will discuss with Peter about the 28 and March 14.

[06:31] <annette_g> Caroline_: anything else?

[06:32] <annette_g> ... comments about conneg?

[06:32] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: We voted for publishing DCAT, who will follow up to see that it gets published?

[06:33] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: I can be a candidate, but it's as you prefer.

[06:33] <annette_g> Caroline_: I think it would be great if you can do it, since you've been leading it.

[06:34] <annette_g> Caroline_: thank you Riccardo, let us know if you run into any trouble.

[06:37] <annette_g> annette_g: this is very off topic, but one thing I've been thinking about is whether we could do anything to improve the performance of file transfers in http.

[06:37] <Caroline_> ack riccardoAlbertoni_

[06:37] * Zakim sees no one on the speaker queue

[06:38] <annette_g> Caroline_: Does anyone have ideas about this and how it could be approached in W3C?

[06:38] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: by the name of our group, it makes sense for us to think about it, but it would require a change in our charter.

[06:39] <annette_g> ... I don't know which network layer this should be handled at. It may not be under W3C concerns.

[06:41] <annette_g> annette_g: Right now, the best tool for moving files over the web is Globus, which handles a setting up multiple threads and minding connections for you. It might be nice if that functionality were built into browsers.

[06:41] <annette_g> Caroline_: I'm sure phillipe would know if there is a relevant working group.

[06:42] <annette_g> annette_g: This might be more of an IETF thing otherwise.

[06:43] <nobu_ogura> +q

[06:43] * Zakim sees nobu_ogura on the speaker queue

[06:43] <annette_g> Caroline_: the W3C should be a step ahead on these things.

[06:44] <annette_g> nobu_ogura: maybe I'll report about the IEEE roundtable with the data society in Brussels.

[06:44] <annette_g> ...It was a meeting with the Japanese data society and european organizations on data and semantic web.

[06:45] <annette_g> ...Two weeks ago, I talked with Peter on this topic and said I wasn't expecting much in relation to the W3C, but on the contrary, I learned that DCAT is in quite an important place for them.

[06:46] <annette_g> ...Two people, one from ???, they are using DCAT in a system. They are using DCAT 2.

[06:47] <annette_g> ...One is working across societies using DCAT. One is Spanish.

[06:47] <annette_g> ...Two weeks ago, Peter mentioned about ECCN?? I met those people. They are trying to propose a vocabulary against DCAT. Not sure what the relation would be yet.

[06:48] * Zakim sees riccardoAlbertoni_ on the speaker queue

[06:48] <annette_g> ...Anyway, I was glad to hear the acknowledgment of the usefulness of DCAT.

[06:48] <Caroline_> ack riccardoAlbertoni_

[06:48] * Zakim sees no one on the speaker queue

[06:49] <annette_g> riccardoAlbertoni_: I think that after we have published this last working draft, it might be worth contacting these people that Nobu mentioned and see if they plan an implementation.

[06:50] <annette_g> ...I guess we need to list all the people we know and contact them in order to solicit implimentations. Until then, we can work under the hood and try to encourage people to implement DCAT 3 features.

[06:50] <annette_g> ...Many people may not know that they can be part of this effort.

[06:51] <annette_g> ...Involving new people that you met could be interesting.

[06:51] <annette_g> nobu_ogura: yes, that's what I am trying to do now.

[06:52] <annette_g> Caroline_: thanks for the report, nobu_ogura !

Uh-Oh, it looks like the rrsagent was invited too late to capture the notes from today’s meeting. Does anybody still have the tab open and could grab them?
