Re: Agenda, October 8 - !re-charter!

The key thing is that there were other parties involved in formulating FAIR, and they are (quite reasonably) a bit miffed to see it referred to in a narrative as "Force 11 FAIR principles". Just drop "Force 11" in the text and noone will be put out. And the citation should be to the Wilkinson et Al. Article, using its doi, rather than through some intermediate branded sites.

I think that is the correct reference. Everything after that is commentary.

Just to note that, in the DCAT spec, we refer to the Nature article mentioned by Alejandra when talking about FAIR:

Hi All,

I think Simon may have meant the "Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles" (https://www.force11.org/datacitationprinciples<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.force11.org/datacitationprinciples__;!NW73rmyV52c!WsGePw0QZDKrgQx59T-wKy3sTiOOLKC2vRX1W3y8Ef4Z-4jr-azCaRn4aOQc1VR0Dd_69Gw$>) that appears in the Force11 website but it has been endorsed by many organisations, including CODATA (https://www.force11.org/datacitation/endorsements<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.force11.org/datacitation/endorsements__;!NW73rmyV52c!WsGePw0QZDKrgQx59T-wKy3sTiOOLKC2vRX1W3y8Ef4Z-4jr-azCaRn4aOQc1VR0SMQO7c0$>).

For the FAIR principles, I think it is OK to refer to the Force11 website or for a more formal citation, the associated publication (https://doi.org/10.1038/sdata.2016.18<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://doi.org/10.1038/sdata.2016.18__;!NW73rmyV52c!WsGePw0QZDKrgQx59T-wKy3sTiOOLKC2vRX1W3y8Ef4Z-4jr-azCaRn4aOQc1VR03NLafrg$>).

One small detail on the proposed charter:

In section 2.1 the charter refers to 'FORCE 11’s FAIR Principles'
While the publication of the FAIR Principles on FORCE 11's website is a commonly used reference, Force 11 was only one of the organizations involved in the development and promulgation of FAIR. FORCE 11 does not own FAIR, so it is misleading to imply it by denoting it in this way, and disrespectful to the other organizations that were involved (e.g. CODATA). Better to say 'The research data community's FAIR Principles' or just 'The FAIR Principles'.

Subject: Agenda, October 8 - !re-charter!

All, the agenda for October 8 is here:

https://www.w3.org/2017/dxwg/wiki/Meetings:Telecon2019.10.08<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.w3.org/2017/dxwg/wiki/Meetings:Telecon2019.10.08__;!NW73rmyV52c!WsGePw0QZDKrgQx59T-wKy3sTiOOLKC2vRX1W3y8Ef4Z-4jr-azCaRn4aOQc1VR0qmd4LOo$>

Other than updates on DCAT and Conneg progress, we have the question of re-chartering the group. There is a draft of the new charter here:

https://www.w3.org/2017/dxwg/wiki/Meetings:Telecon2019.10.08<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.w3.org/2017/dxwg/wiki/Meetings:Telecon2019.10.08__;!NW73rmyV52c!WsGePw0QZDKrgQx59T-wKy3sTiOOLKC2vRX1W3y8Ef4Z-4jr-azCaRn4aOQc1VR0qmd4LOo$>

It is VERY close to the original charter, as we were advised by Philippe that would be the easiest route. We will definitely get and apply any edits that he suggests, and we'll let you know what those are.

The chairs.
