@agreiner I agree with you that this is an interesting discussion and we addressed this in several issues over the last year, e.g. https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/52, https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/317, https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/411, https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/531. @dr-shorthair came to a conclusion at https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/531#issuecomment-460885511, that "_the consensus is that anything short of losslessly-convertible would be use-case specific_". @davebrowning wrote at https://github.com/w3c/dxwg/issues/411#issuecomment-468195225: "_As it stands this appears to be an issue best addressed using profiles_".
