@rob-metalinkage I think I agree with this use case, even though I am a bit puzzled by the fact that it quickly dives into self-reflection (i.e. "This needs explicit recognition for several reasons"). Maybe this could be mitigated by providing with example of documents that accomplish several specification roles?
Other suggestions:
- "role of documents w.r.t. specification" and "role w.r.t. specification" may be simpler if written "specification role" (of (parts of) documents)
- get rid of "the pattern" (which is not defined/introduced)
- I somehow have the feeling that you have listed the 3 requirements in the reverse order of intuitiveness and importance. Can you re-order them into ("Each document may perform multiple roles w.r.t. specifications". "The role of documents w.r.t. specifications needs to be explicit" "Documents that perform multiple roles, such as multiple discrete sets of requirements, suggestions etc need provide stable identifiers for each logical grouping of specifications."
