Re: Use Case template

Hi all,

We added to the wiki another agenda proposal. It gives more floor to group
discussions and group work on the draft. It also encompass many of Steve's
ideas above.
This agenda proposal will work out if the group has extra work to write a
more robust document before de meeting. Expected outcomes are Use Cases
Group Note, BP preliminary version and Guidelines for Vocab documents.

I invite you all to visit the wiki and add comments. [1]

This proposal was writen by WG members: Caroline, Ig Bittencourt,
Nathalia, Yaso, Newton, Vagner.

Vagner.

Hi Steve,

We considered these kinds of elements, but thought they were out-of-scope.
My understanding is that as a W3C WG we can make recommendations for
technical/data aspects, but not really governance/policy issues. The aim
of the use-cases is to feed into our deliverables:
· Data on the Web Best Practices
· Quality and Granularity Description Vocabulary
· Data Usage Description Vocabulary
The elements you refer to may be better managed by groups such as OGP,
OKFN, etc. However if these elements are of importance to the use-case,
they can be included in the general overview.

Cheers,
Deirdre

Great work!

Could we add the following categories to the use case template:

Organizational challenges
- Data Policy
- Governance
- Budget
- Leadership
- Culture

Other ideas?

Regards,

Steve

  Subject: Use Case template

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their input on the DWBP Use Case document. While we
have gathered lots of interesting stories, I agree with Antoine,
Christoph, Makx and others that at this stage it would be better to have a
more structured and focused approach.

The aim of gathering use-cases is to publish a Use Case document as a W3C
Working Group Note, structured as:
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Use-cases
- Challenges
- Requirements
See the Data Cube use-case doc as an example:
http://www.w3.org/TR/2013/NOTE-vocab-data-cube-use-cases-20130801/
We hope to have this document ready for approval at our F2F in London.

We have therefore restructured the DWBP Use Case document to reflect the
W3C Working Group Note structure. While the general stories were great to
gather ideas, we now need to focus on specific ‘data on the web’
use-cases, with their technical challenges. I had a look at other Use-Case
Templates (thanks for the links) and propose the following DWBP Use Case
template
· Contributor:
· Overview: (no more than 150 words)
· Elements:
o Domains:
o Obligation/motivation:
o Usage:
o Quality:
o Size:
o Type/format:
o Rate of change:
o Data lifespan:
o Potential audience:
· Technical Challenges/Limitations:
o c1
o c2
o c3
· Potential Requirements:

I encourage all DWBP members to add at least one new use-cases for data on
the web (not restricted to Open Data) using the new template here
https://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/wiki/Use_Cases.

For those that have already added use-cases, I have mapped the more
specific ones to the new template (authors, please feel free to
modify/update). The other stories are too generic in their current format
to be considered use-cases, but the authors could update them to focus on
specific aspects/issues.

For more examples of use-cases from other W3C groups, see:

- http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/lld/wiki/UseCases

Let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Deirdre
