Not using github (was: Re: vann:preferredNamespaceUri)

Dear Vladimir,

Thanks for the comments you have sent - and maybe some that are still in the pipe.
We'll try to answer asap.

In the meantime I have to react to the question about github.
Our group don't use github for issues. We use the old W3C issue tracker, and now that I see you are on github and sending pull requests, I understand why it is so. A Working Group may expect that it is the responsibility of spec editors, or at least group members, to raise issues. The W3C model is that WG should have enough expertise of their own, and they can act as 'buffer' between the spec and the outside world. We need to make sure that we don't have to deal with crap issues coming directly from the outside world (or completely distinct parts of W3C activities) in the system we also use for our own issues.

As a matter of fact Riccardo and I are going to look at your questions, and raise issues in the W3C tracker for the ones that are not purely editorial. It will make editorial issues less official, but others will be then recorded in a more formal way, and that's important for our group - we can then show we've received comments on the core matter and we've handled it (or not).

And yes github can probably used in a similar way, but that's not how we started, a couple of years ago.

Same goes for the pull requests on the DQV spec. There's no way we can accept them as such, because you're not an editor and perhaps not even a WG member. If possible please send them over email, or wait for Riccardo or I to look at them and send it ourselves - which may take a while. Truth is, this WG cannot be expected to listen to github. Wherever it comes from (we also had some feedback on Twitter) input needs to be materialized on the mail for now...

Cheers,

Antoine
