I'd mentioned some footnote examples and was aked if I could make them public; http://www.w3.org/XML/2015/02/footnote-examples/ I collected these when we were working on XSL-FO 2.0; the XSLFO WG accepted some as in scope and not others, so I'm not trying to claim everything you see there must be duplicated in the Web Platform. Michael Sperberg-McQueen collected some more examples and I'll see if he minds if I make those public as well. The footnotes in the parallel translation of the pseugepigraphical writings are sufficiently complex that, now the book is out of copyright, I've seen modern "editions" of the texts that just take the leftmost column of text on each page, retaining some of the footnote markers but not reprinting the footnotes.
