Treating security & DRM separately?

I suggest we not conflate "security" with DRM but treat them as separate topics.

The reason is that although DRM can be enabled using security technologies, security is a much broader topic.

When digital publishing is built on the open web platform, and when interactivity is enabled, then new security threats may arise. These include various attacks, especially when the device used for reading is also used for other purposes.
(An example given during EDUPUB was a dialog requesting payment for further reading that did not originate from publisher).

Thus I think it might be useful to reserve the term security for dealing with threats and countermeasures etc, while reserving the term DRM to relate to that specific business requirement and associated technology.

Separating these items might be a useful reminder of the broader issue.

What do you think?
