That warning has been in place for many years. Everyone involved here has acknowledged above there is a significant risk of introducing incompatibility by making this change. The first step is to add the necessary metrics to browser implementations in order to understand the impact of the change and whether any developer outreach efforts (such as this warning) have had an effect on the frequency of gesture-less requests for geolocation.
