Doing so would add complexity that IMO would be detrimental. By creating this W3C Recommendation, this working group has an opportunity to recommend good ways to make spreadsheet data most readily machine interpretable, and I don't think unions are a good practice. If they are permitted I think they should at least be marked as not recommended. 2. Re multiple null values. Please do not endorse the notion of multiple null values. I can see Jeremy's reason for doing it, but it is really combining two pieces of information into a single field: null + reason. It is no longer just null (no data). If someone wants to have multiple null values, then they can use a separate user-defined datatype for that. Thanks, David Booth
