I remembered this issue when I was thinking about #10094. Would it make sense to approach this problem using **[contexts](https://www.w3.org/TR/css-cascade-5/#cascade-context)** instead of layers? We could introduce two new contexts for placing styles before or after the rest of the author styles. <img width="786" alt="Diagram showing the author origin split up into three sections: first context, last context, and in the middle the existing contexts" src="https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/assets/9084735/2eb03a91-6c94-4ad7-bc6f-176830fbb94a"> -- GitHub Notification of comment by mayank99 Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/6323#issuecomment-2179486794 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
