Yea, but more precisely, it's tone-mapping for CSS colors only (rather than non-HDR elements).

That's very clear. I just wanted to present a specific example for a case where it's very useful.

Yes, and when stylsheets are combined, a latter one can always completely crew and override the previous ones in all aspects, that's why I your initial concerns apply to all CSS features equally and in general as that's the nature of CSS.
