I think this should illustrate the tradeoff of what Oklab gives up in the extended form to avoid geometric distortion in extreme ranges. Below I've denoted the extended form as `oklabx`. Essentially, bending the blue so that extreme colors in that range do not have bizarre distortion bends the color away from the true blue in some cases.
