A little more testing shows that it particularly works well with mainly gamut mapping Rec. 2020 to sRGB and Display P3. Maybe not so much with some other spaces to others. You'd have to tweak the scaling for a specific RGB gamut. But I think it illustrates why Scale LH doesn't always give the best color and why chroma reduction gives better results despite the ∆h sometimes being greater.
