@tabatkins and I drafted up a suggestion for a `position-try-final` property in https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/9196#issuecomment-1912788896 , which would give the options `[ always? && [ first | <<try-size>> ] ] | hide`, where `hide` was defined as > Use the first [=position option=] (as for ''first''), but also hide the box such that it (and all of its contents) are invisible (like ''visibility: hidden'') and do not contribute to [=scrollable overflow=].
