But wait: the spec says:

> and the `<<angle>>` is resolved to a `<<number>>` of degrees
(which is the [=canonical unit=])
in the range [0, 360]

so the calc is adding the hue angle resolved to a **number** (of degrees). Which is also explicitly stated:

> Had the origin color hue `<<angle>>` been specified in another unit, 
 such as radians or turns,
 still the resolved `<<number>>` would be the number of degrees.
