Setting diffuse white = 5 times ambient surround is going to be roughly comparable (for a typical room or outdoor setting) to setting the diffuse white to the same brightness as a piece of white paper under ambient illumination, which was my recommendation upthread.

Is there a clear spec / description somewhere of exactly what level devices set with automatic brightness adjustment turned on?
