The method you described used to be used in Japanese too, and there are existing publications that use this method, but it is rarely used these days, and that simple-ruby does not take this option. It can align line edges better, but as a side effects, it makes spaces longer. Modern typography prioritizes to minimize expansions.

Is this method common in modern Chinese typography?
