UIKit [models](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uiimage/3375727-baselineoffsetfrombottom) this information by using baselines. This is probably the most natural way to model this information in CSS, too. I started discussing this in https://github.com/w3c/svgwg/issues/739.
