Since `math-style` is swapping between a block-like version and an inline version, would it make sense for it to have a default `auto` version that keys off the `display` value? (Specifically, the [`<display-outside>` mode](https://drafts.csswg.org/css-display/#outer-role).) That would still allow authors to set a different technique, and allow browsers to trigger that behavior based on MathML semantics, while doing the smart thing for general CSS layout. Note that I think this would also change how the two properties interact by default. -- GitHub Notification of comment by AmeliaBR Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/3746#issuecomment-475801353 using your GitHub account
