Thanks for the feedback.

I think it is well established that authors would like this. Your examples illustrate it quite well.

The main problem is not the lack of use cases, but the way selections work. Selections are a range between two points in the DOM. But pseudo elements are not in the DOM, so there is a tension there. That does not necessarily make it impossible, but it does make it more complicated than just saying that they apply.
