In case it's helpful, here are the font metrics (via FontForge and the OS/2 table) for two of your examples: font name | em size | typo ascent | typo descent | win ascent |win descent | cap height ------------ | ------------- | ------------- | ------------- | ------------- | ------------- | ------------- Frankfurter | 1000 | 976 | -24 | 1143 | 35 | 667 Hetilica-Bold | 2048 | 1536 | -512 | 1953 | 326 | 1415 Does this happen for all fonts?
