Fwiw I would strongly disagree with leaving it as-is. Treating [☺ U+263A SMILING FACE](https://unicode.org/cldr/utility/character.jsp?a=263A&B1=Show) and [😀 U+1F600 GRINNING FACE](https://unicode.org/cldr/utility/character.jsp?a=1F600&B1=Show) differently is hostile to authors imho.
