Unless there is an overarching, specific effort to define, architect and document an overall DID Ecosystem, then trying to do it piecemeal will fail.

At the Web 7.0 Foundation, we’re building a comprehensive, 100% decentralized, 100% DID-based library operating system using as much as we can from the existing DID-related specifications.

Trying to use the existing specs as-is is nothing less than painful. See below for an example.

A DID Ecosystem needs to be comprehensive – minimum coverage includes:

I’m giving a related talk at the DIDComm webcast on this Tuesday.

Yes, it all sounds interesting, Christoph, please share. It's the best way to get feedback on your ideas.

Also, +1 for building reusable components... that's exactly the reason why we didn't try to do a "Web Identity" working group at W3C and instead focused on composable, globally extensible, primitives (Decentralized Identifiers, Verifiable Credentials, Data Integrity, Verifiable Credential API for Lifecycle Management, Encrypted Data Vaults, authorization capabilities (ZCAPs), etc.).

The reason we haven't achieved your "complete coherent model" goal is that we're still trying to figure out how all of these things fit together, though I think you will find that we're further along than you might realize.

So, let's see where your vision overlaps with what we've built so far... please do share.
