Hi everyone, Sending this while Americans are deep in turkey and pie, so apologies if it lands between helpings. For the rest of the world wondering why their US colleagues have gone quiet: it's our annual long weekend of overeating and family diplomacy. Normal service resumes Monday. Quick update on the #RevisitingSSI initiative I announced on this list earlier this month to update the 2016 Self-Sovereign Identity Principle in time for its 10th anniversary next April. We've hit critical mass for next Tuesday's kickoff (December 2nd, 10am PT / 7pm CET) with over 30 people signed up. Looking forward to a rich discussion. For those in Asia-Pacific time zones, I've scheduled a second kickoff for December 9th at 6am PT (3pm Tokyo, 10pm CET). I'm pleased that Charnon Pattiyanon and Toshiaki Aoki will be joining us - they authored the CSSPS paper (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9875265 a framework of 42 verifiable properties that bridges SSI principles and regulatory compliance through constraint-based modeling). Their work directly informs our initial "From Principles to Compliance" lens. Shigeya Suzuki and several colleagues are likely to attend. HOwever, we'd love more participation from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Korea, and India if you know folks in those regions who might be interested. To get the Zoom link, you'll need to join either our Signal group or announcement email list. We're not posting it publicly to avoid zoombombers. * Private Signal Group: https://signal.group/#CjQKIGvXAxLVq2z08-ckRWSlUIdRvX95lFh2APQaE0Oh_KFvEhB1R_7kkWDa9Oi3fh7R_I-a * Announcements-only email list: https://www.blockchaincommons.com/subscribe/#ssi-tenth-anniversary Since my last message, we've launched https://RevisitingSSI.com with project details, code of conduct, working circle expectations, and 15 draft "lens briefs" examining SSI from diverse angles. Even if you can't participate in the workshops, you might find the lenses useful for your own thinking about digital identity. The 15 lenses: Foundational Principles & Rights - The Irreducible Person - Anti-Property - Right to Transact - Cryptographic Paradigms Preventing Coercion - Coercion Resistance - Self-Coercion - Choice Architecture & Exit Rights - Binding Commitments Relational & Contextual Identity - Relational Autonomy - Context Boundaries & Anti-Correlation - Multi-Scalar Sovereignty - Stewardship Compliance, Governance & Technical Foundations - From Principles to Compliance - Regulatory Frameworks - Principal Authority Each brief surface harms, tensions, and constructive directions. They're working drafts seeking primary authors and feedback, not final positions. Browse them at: https://revisitingssi.com/lenses/briefs/ You can also join the discussion on these lenses or other topics related to updating the SSI principles in our GitHub discussion forum: https://github.com/RevisitingSSI/Community/discussions I hope to see some of you next week! -- Christopher Allen >
